My team and I are doing a 6 part series about our first week in the Dominican Republic. If you want to read chapter 1 and 2 first go to Jenn Paris’s blog! For chapter 2 go to Antoinette’s Johnson’s blog!

Abbey here reporting back to you! My team and I have been watching The Chosen together. As a visual learner, it‘s been sweet being able to watch the Bible come to life. In this series, they re-enact biblical stories. Specifically, walking with the 12 disciples and how they came to Jesus. As I’ve been watching this, the Lord has pointed out so many parallels to our current times now. I mean, who are we kidding? These are biblical times! The Lord is still working, healing, and miracles are still happening. In the church I feel like we just let biblical times die with Jesus. The thing is He rose again three days later and biblical times never ended.

*spoiler alert* The last episode of season one is the women at the well. When we were going to one particular community, it was not close. It wasn’t the easiest drive to get there. We went for a weekly Bible study they have. They meet in an old cockfighting ring…yep, you read that right. The Bible study is maybe an hour long, we started off with some worship and dove right into the word. Afterwards, we chatted and headed back down the mountain. Our team was not there very long and on our way home I was a little puzzled. I had a while to think on our long drive, why were we only there for such a short time, what was the point of that, we could’ve done more. It hit me mid thought. I was reminded of the story of the women at the well, my mind went back to the episode we had just watched. The disciples questioned Jesus why they would go through Samaria. They didn’t understand yet Jesus sought out the one women. He had a short conversation with her after his journey and it changed her life.

As my team and I travel to do ministry, I am reminded of the Lord’s love for each one of His children. How He will travel FAR, He will travel out of His way, just to reach one person. We are called to be like Christ, we need to go the distance even if that’s just being kind to someone we don’t want to. My church has a saying we live by that I absolutely love. “If only for the one.” We are called to seek people out and show them Christ’s love even if only one person is saved.

  1. Really great insights, Abbey. It reminds me of Acts 8 where Philip was preaching the Word to multitudes and doing miracles. But God sent him to the desert where he shard the gospel with the Ethiopian eunuch and he was saved and baptized. God does care about multitudes but also each person individually. So thankful you are listening to God and sharing your insights .
    We love you lots!

  2. Thank you for sharing, Abbey! I love how our loving God is using the Chosen all over the world to show us His love for every single one of us.??

  3. Love the Chosen! It’s a powerful tool bringing the Bible too life on the screen!
